Aldaba-WIB Chair Award Recognizes Groundbreaking Study on Virtual Reality and Public Speaking Anxiety

The prestigious Aldaba-WIB Chair Award, which honors outstanding contributions led by women in the fields of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and business, has been awarded to a team of researchers for their innovative work titled “Effectiveness of Virtual Reality in Reducing Public Speaking Anxiety: A Pilot Study.” The award, specifically dedicated to recognizing projects led by women as first authors, was presented during a ceremony at the University of A Coruña.

The winning team, composed of Maria Oliveira, Raquel Simões de Almeida, Paulo Veloso Gomes, João Donga, Bruno Teixeira, António Marques, and Javier Pereira, conducted a pioneering study exploring how virtual reality (VR) can be used to alleviate public speaking anxiety. Their research highlights the potential of VR as a transformative tool in addressing a common yet often debilitating fear, offering new possibilities for therapeutic and educational applications.

Virginia Mato Abad, Director of the Aldaba-WIB Chair at the University of A Coruña, presented the award, emphasizing the importance of supporting and recognizing the leadership of women in scientific and technological innovation. “This award not only celebrates excellence in research but also underscores the critical role women play in driving advancements in ICT and business,” she stated.
